The Fairyhunter

Part 6

Adrian peered around in the darkness, waiting patiently. He knew she was around here somewhere. It was just a matter of figuring out where she was. The sensor had picked up a VERY clear reading of her magic, which meant she’d probably flown right into the shield itself. He frowned. Why would a sprite that supposed to be this smart do something that stupid?, he pondered. He grinned a little. I must have REALLY distracted the little vixen! He shook his head irritably and frowned. Damn! I can’t be getting’ INTO some little bug! She’s not even elven, she’s just some lightning bug with great legs…and a cute butt…and a tight little waist…and…

Adrian shook his head, needing desperately to adjust himself. Something was very wrong about all this…something he couldn’t put his finger on. Why couldn’t he just see her as a sprite and nothing more? It’s not like she’d really said anything impressive to him, it was just …

SHE TALKED!!!!

Holy shit!, he thought, eyes wide. NO sprite could talk! None of them! He felt a cold trickle down his spine as an unwanted thought crept into his head. Y‘know, if they can TALK, then they aren’t really things that ought to be bought and sold…

He shook his head again, angrily clearing it of such thoughts. He had a job to do, especially with this one. She couldn’t be allowed to wreck anymore of his stuff or anyone else’s. There were people who made their living this way and she was just an unfortunate casualty. A very sexy little casualty, he thought, reaching down to adjust himself. A little glint of gold caught his eye in the grass and he paused, then reached down to get it. Holding it up close, he could see that it was a little amulet on a chain, the same one that had been around her neck.

He grinned a little again, somewhat relieved that she had possibly gotten away. If she was gone, he wouldn’t have to deal with her…he could just go back to being pissed that she’d wrecked his equipment.

That’s when he noticed the glow under the piece of bark at his feet.

He lifted it up gingerly and saw her lying there on her back, looking up at him in fear. She was obviously hurt, but trying to look brave. He couldn’t help but think of how beautiful she looked lying there, her body enveloped in a soft pink glow that accented the curves in her tiny figure. He hadn’t ever really bothered to look a sprite over before, but he found he couldn’t take his eyes off this one.

She looked back up at him and their eyes locked. Neither one could say anything for a moment.

"That sapphire is mine, sprite," he said sternly.

"Take it back, then," she said smugly.

He changed the subject, to her surprise. "How hard did you hit the field?" he asked.

"I’m fine," she said, a little too quickly. "Are you gonna try and capture me or not? ‘Cause if you are, you’re got a long night ahead of you…I don’t care if I have to kill myself and take your whole hand off in the process…"

Adrian chuckled. "Determined little minx, aren’t you?" She glared at him, obviously not liking the choice of words and he grinned even bigger, then reached down to touch her little foot. "Well, now, what to do with an obstinate little thing like you? Should I…keep you in a gem somewhere?" He slid his finger up her leg and traced her knee, watching her every move in case she tried to zap him. "Or maybe I should just drain your magic here and sell your little crystallized body in this sexy pose you’re in right now." His fingertip rose gently, sliding up the black leggings covering her and on up to her belly, just below where the gem protected her from a touch of a much more intimate nature.

"I’m warning you, human…" she said weakly, still not moving at all.

"I know of a few fairy collectors who use their prizes for…other things, too." He could feel her breathing heavily under his fingertip, saw the rise and fall of his favorite gem against her tiny chest and felt himself get excited with her. She made no move to zap him or touch him and he knew what they were both waiting for. He started to slide his finger up just a hair’s breadth more, edging the gem slightly aside, feeling the tiny strip of leather that bound her vest up just over the swell of her firm little…

"Adrian, the sensors went crazy a bit ago! Have you found her?" Michael’s voice startled them both, her into a sitting position, him to standing. He wasn’t far behind them in the woods and was definitely closing in on them. The two exchanged glances, then Adrian’s hand shot down toward her, not giving her even the slightest moment to protest or fight back as he picked her up. Without another word, he closed his fist around her, enveloping her in darkness. She felt a sudden jerking motion, then his hand opened up again. "GO!" he whispered.

She looked around and saw that his hand was past the perimeter beams…which meant so was she. The gem was still clutched in her arms. She looked back at him quickly, then nodded her head, turned and fluttered shakily off his hand to disappear in the woods.

He drew his hand back, then opened the other one. There in his palm was the amulet. Fair trade, he supposed. I got something she wants, too. Michael joined him, crashing through the underbrush like a wild animal. "I said did you find her?" he panted.

Adrian looked where she had gone, then quietly slipped her amulet in his pocket. "No, she got away, Mikey," he replied quietly, suddenly realizing how distressing this news actually was...
